Description

Alexander Yannai was the last important Maccabean king that ruled by 103-76 BCE. Of all the Jewish coins from this period Yannai’s coins are the most common and the most numerous of them are the different varieties of coins depicting anchor and star. In addition to the regular Jewish motifs of cornucopia, anchor, star, wreath, palm branch and lily, Yannai struck a rare double prutah depicting a helmet.

This 2000-year’s old coin is mentioned in the Holy Bible (Mark 12:41-44; Luke 21:1-4) as “Widow’s mite”.
